When beginning to search for a photographer, usually the first thing that comes to mind is budget. But what people often forget is that everyone has a budget, whether it is a larger one or a smaller one. Research to understand an idea of the average cost of wedding photography in your area, and determine where you are in relation to that. It makes sense that a more inexperienced photographer is likely to be cheaper, while a veteran in the industry is a bigger investment. Photographers should be giving guidance on your timeline for your day. I love creating custom timelines for my couples, so they know exactly what to expect, know where I will be throughout their coverage, can list out exact family photos they want, include specific details they want captured, and so much more.

When you do begin to talk with the top photographers you’ve picked out, see which personality you feel like you will click with the best on your wedding day. They are around you more than anyone, and a huge part of your experience. In addition to their personality, you also want to love their style of work. Figure out what style you love and would want in your home for years to come. Also take into consideration what is your return on investment? Are you receiving an online gallery to download from and share with family and friends? Do they put a limit on the numbers of images they edit and include? Do you have the rights to print where you choose, or must you order through your photographer afterwards?

Ask questions, look at their current work, read reviews from past clients, and pick an artist you love!
